Activate + programme

Bilbao Metropoli-30 is a collaborator of the Activate + programme, an initiative of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia for the promotion of citizen participation in favor of environmental sustainability, developed in collaboration with the public company Garbiker, Basque Government, Bilbao Bizkaia Water Utility, Bizkaia Transport Consortium (CTB), Metro Bilbao, Eroski Group and “la Caixa” Obra Social.

It is based on the Global Action Plan (GAP), an international programme sponsored by the United Nations, based on a positive approach, simple ideas and practical actions, with the aim of changing people’s habits. It seeks to improve efficiency in the use of resources and reduce their negative impact on the planet, while favoring domestic and local economy.

The Activate + programme promotes the active participation of both families in homes and students in their schools, addressing, once completed the program, the themes of purchasing-waste, water, energy and mobility.

A total of 2,300 households, 80 schools and 38,730 school children have been involved in Activate + since 2012, with an overall saving of 69.4 tonnes of CO2.

The closing ceremony for the Activate + school programme for the 2016/17 course and the subsequent meeting of the monitoring committee are held on 1 June 2017 at the Barakaldo Theatre. The event honours the schools taking part in the Activate + programme, and this is followed by the fifth meeting of the monitoring committee.

On 25 January 2018 the campaign for homes is presented at a press conference. If you live in Bilbao, you can sign up for free at http://app.programagap.es/registrate.aspx?cod=30/48001

A meeting has been held on 24 April of the Watchdog Committee of the Activate + programme at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Galindo, being followed by a tour of the installations.

A meeting of the Progress Committee of the Activate + programme has been held on 19 June at the Department of Sustainability and the Environment of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
