New European Bauhaus

On January 18, 2021, the European Commission launched the design phase of the initiative called “New European Bauhaus“, announced by President Von der Leyen in her 2020 State of the Union address. The New European Bauhaus is an environmental, economic and cultural project whose objective is to combine design, sustainability, accessibility, affordability and investment to contribute to the fulfillment of the European Green Deal. Its essential values ??are, therefore, sustainability, aesthetics and inclusiveness. Bilbao Metropoli-30 has been selected by the EU as a partner of the project and, therefore, has an active role in its design.

The New European Bauhaus is a creative initiative that breaks down the boundaries between science and technology, art, culture and social inclusion, so that design allows solutions to everyday problems to be found.

Bilbao Metropoli-30 has created a working group as a co-creation platform to propose examples, ideas or challenges (bottom-up) and provide our environment with more living spaces, more accessible, more affordable, more sustainable and that allow improve the quality of life in relation to the environment, beyond the built space, from a multidisciplinary point of view: cultural, social, economic, scientific…

Bilbao Metropoli-30, as a partner of the New European Bauhaus project, has collaborated in the strategic dimension of the project. Within the framework of this project, the Bilbao City Council organized a local conversation on May 21st 2021. This local conversation was based on Zorrotzaurre as an inspiring space to shape the concept, exploring ideas, detecting the most pressing needs and challenges and connecting stakeholders.

Likewise, it participated on June 11 in the “New European Bauhaus Dialogue: Sustainable and Inclusive City”, organized by Conexiones Improbables and led by Creative Industries Kosice (Slovakia).

Likewise, Bilbao Metropoli-30 collaborates as a jury in the evaluation of the projects presented to the New European Bauhaus Awards.
